Youth/Families
Information for parents, guardians, and students
hUmankind is a Cambridge-based, youth-led program that teaches practical life skills through hands-on service.
In our cooking cohorts, middle and high school students learn culinary fundamentals while preparing nutritious meals that are donated to local community partners addressing food insecurity.
Our focus is skill-building, responsibility, and dignity — not charity.
Who is it for?
Our programs are designed for:
Middle and high school students
Youth ages 9+ (summer programs only)
Students interested in cooking, service, and teamwork
Families seeking structured, supervised after-school programming
No prior cooking experience is required.
Safety & supervision are core to our program:
In-person, after-school sessions (typically 4:00–7:00 PM)
Adult-to-youth ratio of at least 1:5
Emergency contact information on file for all participants
Clear kitchen safety protocols (aprons, hair tied back, gloves, hygiene)
At least two adult leads present at all times
hUmankind is a skill-building and service program and is not a licensed childcare provider.
“If you have questions or want to learn more, I’m always happy to connect.”
